I still have questions about what a Doula does/doesn't do, how can I get more information?
Please consult the link What is a Doula? - This provides information about the role of Birth Doulas. If you still have questions feel free to contact me.
I'd like to meet you before committing to Doula support, is this possible?
I believe it is so important that you and your Doula get along well so I always provide a free 30 minute consultation at a coffee shop or other convenient location.
I am medically required to have a Caesarean Section for my birth, should I still get a Doula?
Definitely! It is often asked what a Doula would do during a Caesarean Section. Your Doula will continue to educate and support you in the operating and recovery room, will support your partner by keeping them informed throughout the process (and helping them know how to help you), help you greet your baby, assist with breastfeeding initiation, and offer continued postpartum support if you desire it while you recover.
I have the support of a Midwife, should I still get a Doula?
Definitely! Midwives and Doulas typically share the same philosophy regarding education, support, and informed decision making however a midwife offers clinical support. While the Midwife is taking care of your medical needs, the Doula will continue to offer physical and emotional support to you and your partner. We make a perfect team!
Do you perform any physical examinations?
As a non-medical professional I do not perform any clinical procedures. I am happy to assist by answering any procedural questions you may have to the best of my ability.
Does having a Doula diminish my Partners role?
No, it absolutely does not. In fact many partners feel more involved in the birth experience when there is a doula present. I am there to join your support team and by working together to prepare for the birth we will ensure your partner feels confident and comfortable in their role supporting you.
I really want a Doula, but the cost isn't in my budget at the moment.
DONA International believes there should a be a doula for everyone who wants one, and I wholeheartedly agree! If the cost associated with my support is not within your budget, I am happy to discuss payment plans and options, or referrals to Doulas who offer reduced/free services. Please feel free to contact me to discuss your options.
What if the Doula is sick/unavailable for my birth?
As Birth is unpredictable, I always arrange for a back up Doula, though it isn't typically necessary. You will have an opportunity to speak with or meet the backup Doula during the prenatal period if you desire.
I still have questions about what a Postpartum Doula does/doesn't do, how can I get more information?
Please see the link: What is a Doula? If you still have questions feel free to contact me.
I know that I will require more than a few hours of support postpartum, is this an option?
Yes!!! It definitely is! The transition during the 4th trimester and even beyond can be so overwhelming! I have additional Postpartum Doula Care available as one of my services. Check out the services page to get more information.
I want overnight support. Is this an option?
